The 2021 Virginia Solar Summit is an exciting virtual event with illuminating educational programming and impactful interactive sessions designed to supercharge the solar energy renaissance emerging in the Greater Virginia region, particularly the ground-mounted redevelopment (or "brightfield") boom in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Co-hosted by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, the Virginia Department of Mines Minerals & Energy, the West Virginia Brownfields Assistance Center and Appalachian Voices, this cooperative bi-state gathering of solar interests will bring together individuals, communities, landowners, solar industry professionals, utility representatives, economic developers as well as state and federal governmental professionals to focus on the practice and policy enabling greater Virginia’s electric solar power build up.
It’s a serendipitous time for ground-mounted solar power development in regions with rich industrial and mining legacies, like Greater Virginia. With solar projects more viable than ever before, abundant brownfield & previously mined land currently idled, supportive policy and a favorable investment environment, the region is extremely well-positioned to grow into a solar power leader while simultaneously repurposing thousands of acres of land currently in search of productive use.
This FREE 3-day event consists of a dynamic and diverse program that ranges from deep policy dives, to technical and technological presentations, to detailed discussions of how to access state and federal grants, resources and programs to advance a ground-up solar power production project.
Critically, the 2021 Virginia Solar Summit will host several interactive formats, giving participants the ability to converse in direct dialogue. Solar and land use experts will be available for engaging Q&A in the Solar Experts Exchange. Solar developers lead short tutorial-like talk throughs of their work, giving participants the chance to follow along and follow up with related questions, or their own questions about solar energy development.
Built with presentations & other useful resources contributed by event speakers, as well as materials prepared by state and federal government agencies, the 2021 Virginia Solar Summit Knowledge Binder will contain the working concepts and materials to make a difference on anyone interested in developing solar energy from the student novice to the seasoned solar veteran. Solar developers, vendors and professionals can also register to add their information to the event’s registry to be shared with all registrants.
A new day is dawning for energy production in Greater Virginia and beyond, and the great solar retrofit has begun in earnest.
